Tours that make Berlin get under your skin.
Delivered by a passionate conversationalist.

A major European metropolis that likes slow mornings, Berlin is greener than most imagine and more welcoming than most expect. She has true grit despite her past, is dirty where she shouldn't be, and is polished where it's not needed. Berlin has many faces, wears many hats, and never stops giving you unexpected answers to questions you didn't dare ask. Let me show you around.

Walks that go deeper than the surface

Whether we’re tracing the Prussian footsteps of Mitte or exploring the complex social history of Berlin’s underground culture, these walks are built on insight and discovery. I always welcome a dialogue with you as I aim to address the topics that you find interesting, and to bridge the gap between the grand historical narrative and the living, breathing reality of the streets today.
Join me and find out: History is much more exciting in real life. The present too.

The Essential berlin

All of Berlin's must sees.
Join me on the rollercoaster ride that is Berlin's history: the ups and downs, the twists and turns, and also, well, the crashes. The Prussian rise to power, the shadows of the Nazi era, the scars of the Cold War, the vibrant here and now, and everything in between.

We will visit Museum Island, the Palace Square, touch the Berlin Wall, see Checkpoint Charlie, Hitler's bunker, the Holocaust Memorial, walk through the Brandenburger Gate, and much more.

After four hours, you will feel much more at home.

The Chemical City

History of Drugs in Berlin
If we look closely, we find that at the heart of every chapter in Berlin’s modern history, drugs have played a pivotal role. This tour traces the path from the 19th-century laboratories of Merck through the wild, Golden 1920s, the meth-fueled Blitzkrieg, and the addictions of the Nazi elite.

We explore the doping of the GDR and the post-unification Techno revolution that redefined the city’s nights. We will visit the sites that are still standing and the ghosts of those that no longer exist—uncovering the events, the people, and the ideologies that shaped, and were shaped by, Berlin’s relationship with substances.

Tour Experiences

Four inspiring hours wandering Berlin’s mycelial subconscious of ecstasy and ruin. Aviv is a deeply knowledgeable soul.
Tunni Kraus
from melbourne
What an experience with Aviv! I saw parts of Berlin I’d never normally see and learnt about things I’d never experience. As someone who doesn’t want to go to all the clubs but who is interested in the seedy/drug side of Berlin, this was a great way to access that. Aviv is a witty, knowing and engaging tour guide. Would highly recommend!

I can’t think of a better person to show you around Berlin. Knowledgeable and attentive, he has a way of listening to the city that rubs off on you — waking up a curiosity and a joy of discovering it, layer by layer. He bridges the grand narrative and the living street with a brilliant blend of thoroughness, humour, and most importantly, kindness.

The Guide

Hi, I’m Aviv

A variety of reasons and circumstances brought me to Berlin, spearheaded by free will (or at least that is what I convince myself of). So far, I have had the privilege of living in several special cities. Berlin, however, is the most intricate tapestry of the human experience I’ve taken part in: a never-ending rabbit hole full of nooks and crannies, where every turn reveals another visage of this city, which, like an Eastern deity, has endless faces and stories to tell. So I listen, collect, and pass on to you.

Art historian by training, I enjoy weaving stories with a mix of characters, objects, and context. Although Berlin has its fair share of capital B Beauty, she does not scream it from the rooftops like Amsterdam or Vienna, and often asks us to stop and listen, or stand still and observe. Not unlike a Vermeer, or a Caravaggio (both can be found here too, by the way).

Some small details for texture: I love people, am obsessed with cats, and often stop to admire trees. I believe there are no wrong questions, and I am happy to discuss anything that sparks interest. I love digging into taboos and overlooked corners of history and dragging them into the light. I can't stop myself from connecting the dots between past and present, and finding patterns, sometimes meaningful, sometimes forgettable.

Drop me a line if you have any questions or requests, and join me for a walk through Berlin, a city that never stops giving up its secrets.

FAQ

Common questions

How long are the tours?

Check the specific details of each tour. It also depends on the group, the questions, and how deep we go.  And we usually go pretty deep.

How big are the groups?

You hire me, and you get to decide. Usually, I recommend up to 15 people, but I am flexible. This isn't a walking lecture with a flag on a stick - it's a conversation, and conversations don't work in too big crowds.

Do I need to know anything about Berlin beforehand?

Not a thing. The tours are built to work whether you landed yesterday or you've been coming for years. The only thing I ask is that you come curious.

Are the tours in English or Hebrew?

Both, depending on your wishes. When you book, let me know your preference, and I'll make it work.

What's the difference between The Essential and The Chemical City?

The Classic is Berlin's full story: Prussian Empire to the Cold War to today. The Influence zooms in on one thread that runs through all of it: drugs, from 19th century laboratories to techno clubs. Both will change how you see the city.

What happens if it rains?

We walk. Berlin doesn't cancel for rain and neither do I. The stories are better when the weather is moody anyway (but please, bring a jacket and an umbrella).
